Why should I grow up?

Batman: The Dark Knight Rises

0 187

It took 7 years to complete the trilogy, 2005-2012. I saw the Dark Knight Rises quite late, almost a month from opening day. I was lucky that it is still showing in the cinemas 🙂

Batman Begins

Batman Begins is about how Bruce Wayne loses his parents to a mugger. Studied martial arts with the League of Shadows. 7 years later, he came back to Gotham City to save it where he must face his own mentor, Ra’s al Ghul. The movie was just nice to build up the anticipation to part 2 and 3 of the trilogy.

The Dark Knight

Then, there’s the Dark Knight. Personally, I think this is how a Batman movie should have been made. Complex, dark and believable. I am sure that any comic fans, regardless whether they are from Marvel or DC, did not miss this.

The Dark Knight was a brilliant movie from Christoper Nolan. An outstanding performance from the late Heath Ledger. I was mesmerized by Heath Ledger portrayals of the Joker. Destroying an entire hospital without flinching nor remorse.

Killing without a thought. Dark and psychotic.

Really hate him at that time. And Christian Bale … well … he is made for the Dark Knight. No question about that.

The Dark Knight Rises

Batman Begins was a good kick-start to re-introduce Batman. Dark Knight was darker, but somehow The Dark Knight Rises, to me – failed to impress.

After seeing the Joker in the Dark Knight, Bane was a bit bland. The first fight sequence evokes plenty of emotions especially when it leaves Batman defeated and almost paralyzed. You could really feel the frustration in him while at the same time made Bane looked invincible, but then nothing. That was it.

Jim Gordon was ‘missing’. He was actively involved in Batman Begins and in the Dark Knight. You don’t see him much here. Maybe it’s due to the introduction of John Blake. Who knows, he might be the future Batman instead of Robin, based on how the film ended.

Then, there’s Anne Hathaway’s Catwoman. Other than providing some sexiness to the movie, there’s nothing else. I am not really sure how they end up together in the last part of the movie. There’s no chemistry between them. They were not given a chance.

Anne Hathaway as Catwoman does make me feel a little bit awkward since both The Princess Diaries and Alice In Wonderland are my daughter’s fav … 🙂 she will be in a catsuit this time. Luckily I saw this movie by myself. If not it would be hard to explain.

If it is not a trilogy, The Dark Knight Rises is good on its own. But if you have watched Batman Begins and The Dark Knight, you will be a bit disappointed.  If they are making any more movies of the Caped Crusader in the future, please make sure it should be better or at least as good as The Dark Knight.

Ok .. ok .. maybe I was being too hard. The explosion scenes are actually awesome especially the one in the packed stadium. What begins with a seemingly calm performance of the national anthem before the game ended with a series of explosions of epic proportion. Awesome!
