If you are planning to get a move set for your PS3, get the bundle like I did with Socom 4. It’s much cheaper than if you buy them separately. At Amazon, it’s only $196(affiliate). SOCOM 4: US Navy Seals Full Deployment Edition contents:

Legendary Access
Legendary Access requires the purchase of a recurring monthly game pass (subscription) ($14.99/month) or the SOE All Access pass (subscription) ($19.99/month). At the time the game transitions to free-to-play, all existing DCUO accounts with active paid subscriptions will be granted Legendary Access. Legendary Access will also be granted to any player that activates a 30-day free subscription associated with a purchased copy of the DCUO base game software. Legendary Access will automatically convert to Premium Access at the end of the subscription period if it is not renewed. Additional items and features (e.g., in-game marketplace items and additional inventory slots) are not included and must be purchased separately.

Premium Access
At the time the game is transitioned to free-to-play, all existing DCUO accounts with inactive subscriptions will be granted Premium Access. After the game is transitioned to free-to-play, Premium Access will be granted to any player that spends at least U.S. $5.00 (or the foreign equivalent) or 500 Station Cash on items in the DCUO in-game marketplace, or that purchases a DCUO DLC Pack. Premium Access does not expire.

Free Access
Provides basic access to the game with limited content and features. DLC Packs and other items and features are not included and must be purchased separately.

It should not be a problem if you opt for the free access. You will have access to all of the current DC Universe Online gameplay, including Gotham City, Metropolis and all of the current raids and alerts. Free players will be able to create two characters, join a League and purchase upgrades such as new adventures, additional character slots and powers as they wish. that should be enough to keep you busy for a few weeks.

Sony’s DC Universe Online is also enjoying some decent levels of popularity, although not as much as Arkham Asylum. Players can customized their own super heroes (or super villains) and embark on alongside famous characters from DC Comics, like Batman or Superman.

If you don’t like the Green Lantern movie, then maybe you would like to play as Green Lantern in DC Universe Online. Sony is deploying a new downloadable content pack for DC Universe Online, called Fight for the Light, based on the Green Lantern hero and exploiting some of the events from the recent movie, as well as the comic books.

I have to admit, I had a lot of fun. Playing in a group is fun, but so is playing solo. That, in and of itself, makes this game rather unique. It does become progressively harder to solo, but I would have gotten bored if it hadn’t. The controls were fun as well, in that attacks were combos like triangle+square+triangle which lent an arcade feel, but there was lots of collecting and a progressive mission/storyline that was undeniably RPG.

If you want to play solo, buy the game and play away. If you want to group, get yourself a headset (the trick I learned is to have your bluetooth on before you log into the game). I also purchased a wireless keypad, but the game can sometimes be so quick, it shouldn’t be your first choice for battles. It is almost required to have some kind of keyboard though, if you want to interact outside of the group/solo play.

Do I think this is the greatest game ever? No. But is it a great game? I feel it is.

I am a huge DC fan. I also really enjoy action RPGs as well as MMOs, but, very importantly, I also like to occasionally solo and not feel dependent on grouping. Finally, I like trying games that bring something new. While some may argue that each component of what DCUO brings isn’t new, I would say back that its unique in the way its delivered.

Specifically, when I played the Beta I took one character to 20. I also sat with my son while he played to level 7. His mother used my account to play 2 characters: one good, one evil.

Just my two cents. Hope this helps a few.

After reading a review from M. Ireland above, I can’t wait to get a copy but when I made a call to my brother (he’s the one that buys the game for me since it is cheaper near his place) just now, he is still in HK.
