If you haven’t noticed yet, some of the marvel comics come with a free digital edition of the same comic title. Please take a loot at it now. Here’s the sample from my Uncanny X-Force #5. At the bottom of the cover, you will see the Bonus Digital Edition logo.
Found it? Yes? Now open up your comic, and you will find a page with a Marvel Free Digital Comic Offer peel out sticker. Peel it out and it will reveal a code that you can use to redeem your free digital copy.
Where do I go to redeem this free digital copy?
To redeem your code:
- Go to http://marvel.com/redeem
- Enter the 12-digit code in the empty field and click “Add to Cart” button.
- It shows you the cover of the digital comic. Click “Continue”.
- You need to provide the name of the shop you bought the physical comic from and press the “Redeem” button.
- Done. The comic is now part of your digital collection.
Here’s the step by step “Redeem” process screenshots using my Note 2. Take note that I have already signed in to marvel.com. You need a marvel account to redeem. It will prompt you to sign in or create a new marvel account in the process.
Once the process is done, you can start reading it on your digital device. Here are some of the screenshots which I took with my Galaxy Note 2. If you are using a 10-inch tablet or an iPad, it will not be a problem to view the full page. On my Note 2 it is quite small, so when I am reading my digital comics I use the panel by panel view.
Here is how the panel by panel view looks like.
If you are considering digital comics, you should also consider a smartphone to read. At this moment, I do really recommend Samsung Galaxy Note II. Especially when it is so cheap now since Samsung Galaxy Note III is out. Check out the price here. Samsung Galaxy Note III may have better specs, but the price different is big. The specs of Galaxy Note II is just enough for your daily usage even if you are a geek.
Another thing. The sticker brings up a whole new collectible problem. You need to peel the sticker out to get the 12-digit and after that, it will not stick back. Does redeeming Marvel digital comics reduce the value of your comic? I’m sure most hardcore collectors would prefer the sticker to be intact, but it’s not a big issue to me. The code do expire, though. So why not download it?
