Titles made available as of Wednesday include Batman: Hush, Green Lantern: Rebirth, Fables: Legends in Exiles and Planetary: All Over the World and Other Stories, with prices ranging from 99 cents to $2.99 per issue. While most of these are backlist titles already available in print, the miniseries Justice League: Generation Lost, is being made available day and date with the print version at the same price point of $2.99.

DC and comiXology also announced that a portion of the revenues from digital comics sales will be used for a Retailer Affliate Program that will benefit owners of brick-and-mortar comic book shops. They also announced that comic book creators also will benefit from and be paid for sales of the digital comics featuring their work.

Wednesday’s announcement of the Apple iPad may have much of the comic book industry excited about its impact on the industry, but Marvel is a little more cautious, particularly since the device isn’t Flash-enabled. “It’s not going to support our digital comics subscription service as it is,” said Ira Rubenstein, executive vice president of Marvel’s Global Digital Media Group, referring to Marvel’s current online comic book reader. But the executive said he recognizes the market penetration Apple could get with this device, so Marvel is in discussions about how to best reach the iPad’s potential audience. [Newsrama]

Eventually, I think it will work out just find, but if you ask me, I still prefer to buy physical comics rather than ‘software’. Nothing beats holding it with your hands, the fresh print smells with a glass of coke. Hah! But if you are into Apple, iPhone, iPod, iPad etc, you still have to wait a few months for it.

iPad will be available in late March worldwide for a suggested retail price of $499 (US) for the 16GB model, $599 (US) for the 32GB model, $699 (US) for the 64GB model.
