Why should I grow up?

Transformers

Transformers the movie has just made Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer looked like a Tom & Jerry TV show. You can’t even compare Pirates of the Caribbean to it, and Captain Jack Sparrow’s humor stinks.

OK, maybe I am a little bit overboard but I can’t help myself. Any kids of the 80s, from the original Generation 1 (G1), would get as excited as I am when they first announced about Transformers the movie last year. It was like I’m living it at the movies. I think that’s as close as I can get to see the Autobots and Decepticons in real life.

Optimus Prime, Bumblebee, Jazz, Ironhide, Megatron, Starscream, Frenzy and even Scorponok. These robots in disguise are more than meets the eye.

Michael Bay has really taken Transformers to the next level. From toys to a real live-action movie. It felt like I was reunited with old friends. See .. I’m excited.

Many fans said that it deviated too much from the original G1. The storyline and characters are different but I can live with that.

Bumblebee is supposed to be a Volkswagen and Megatron a gun. Scorponok is from a different storyline. He’s from the Headmaster’s series.

I was expecting to see a great fighting scene especially between Optimus Prime and Megatron like any other action movie. The ultimate showdown. There is a lot of action but the fights were too short and not up to my expectations. But overall I did enjoy the movie, it was action from start to end.

The funniest part that I liked was when the Autobots were waiting for Sam outside his house while he’s looking for his granddad’s glasses. My Transformers moment is the Optimus Prime stance :

And of course, no big boys movie is complete without hot looking girls.

Planned for a Saturday show but it was fully booked. Saw it on Monday (2 July 2007) with wife and will go for a 2nd time this weekend, with kids. I’m sure Starscream action figure will be on my son’s left hand while Optimus Prime on his right.

I remembered my university days, during a presentation in one of my English class. It was Impromptu if I’m not mistaken and I talked about my hobby that is collecting comics. Some guys and girls were giggling at the back. A grown-up but still read comics.

Sounds funny to them at that time, but guess what … the movies now are full of comics’ adaptations and more are coming. Nuff said.

If you have never seen any of the Transformers movies, why not try the:

Transformers: The Ultimate 5-Movie Collection.
