Doctor Strange In The Multiverse Of Madness Review

I have to admit that I regretted not seeing Doctor Strange In The Multiverse Of Madness at the cinema. I was busy with work. A project was due and whenever I had time, the movie theater was packed. There were seats available, but usually either in the first or second row. So I decided to wait for Disney+.

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness is the highly anticipated sequel to the original Doctor Strange film that hit theaters in 2016. It is directed by Sam Raimi, who is known for his work on the Spider-Man trilogy. It stars Benedict Cumberbatch, who reprises his role as the title character, Elizabeth Olsen, who plays the Scarlet Witch, and Chiwetel Ejiofor, who portrays Karl Mordo.

The movie follows Doctor Strange as he tries to repair the fabric of reality after it was torn apart by the events of WandaVision. It is very much a sequel to WandaVision, the series that brought the MCU to television.

While searching for her two sons, Wanda accidentally meets America Chavez, played by Xochitl Gomez, a young woman who seems to be the only person who can travel between universes. But America’s power is also dangerous to the existence of any universe she travels through, forcing Strange and Wanda to face some hard choices as they realize that the fate of all realities is at stake.

Compared to the other MCU movies like Iron Man, Captain America: The First Avenger or Guardians of the Galaxy, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness offers a unique interpretation of the superhero genre. The movie combines elements of magic, science fiction and horror creating a thrilling and visually stunning experience. The special effects in the movie are top notch and really bring the multiverse to life. The action scenes are well choreographed and the movie’s pacing keeps the audience engaged throughout.

However, it’s worth noting that Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness is a darker and more mature movie than some of the other films in the MCU. It contains some scary moments and intense violence. Also, the movie requires a certain amount of prior knowledge about the MCU, especially the events of WandaVision, to fully appreciate its storyline. Unlike movies like Black Panther or Iron Man, which are self-contained, this movie requires you to know everything about the MCU to really understand what’s going on.

What I like about Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness

The film offers a visually stunning and imaginative depiction of the multiverse, with plenty of mind-bending sequences and creative use of magic and special effects. The film also features some strong performances from the cast, particularly Benedict Cumberbatch and Elizabeth Olsen, who add depth and complexity to their respective characters.

In addition, the movie incorporates horror elements into the superhero genre, making it a unique and refreshing addition to the MCU. The movie also manages to balance its dark tone with some comedic moments that lighten up the intense action sequences a bit.

What I Do Not Like About This Movie

The movie’s plot can be convoluted and difficult to understand at times, especially if you are not familiar with the intricacies of the MCU. The movie deals with complex concepts like alternate realities, time travel, and the multiverse, which can make it challenging to keep track of the various plotlines and how they fit together.

Also, the movie assumes some prior knowledge of the MCU and the events of WandaVision, which can be confusing for those unfamiliar with the storylines. The movie does offer some explanations to explain these concepts and bring you up to speed, but you’ll still find it difficult to follow the plot.

And if you are not into horror, the horror elements can be unsettling or even disturbing, which may not be to everyone’s taste.

Also, the supporting characters in the film do not get enough development or screen time, which can make them feel somewhat underutilized or underdeveloped.

For example, I felt that Sorcerer Supreme Wong, Benedict Wong, did not have as significant a role as he did in the previous Doctor Strange movie. I am also disappointed that Rachel McAdams’ character, Christine Palmer, did not have as much to do in the movie and did not get as much screen time as I had hoped.

Conclusion

This movie is a must-see for fans of the MCU (of course) looking for a unique and exciting cinematic experience. While it may not be suitable for younger viewers, it offers a visually stunning and action-packed journey through the multiverse that is sure to satisfy fans of the franchise.
