The 3 Best Doctor Strange Comics To Read Before Seeing The Movie The Multiverse of Madness

Before you read the 3 best Doctor Strange comics I am sharing with you here, you should watch the first Doctor Strange movie that came out in 2016.

I mentioned in my previous post that the plot of the movie can be convoluted and hard to understand at times, especially if you are not familiar with the intricacies of the MCU. There are a lot of things going on that are all mashed up together, which can make it difficult to keep track of. At least after the first movie, you learn how he became the Sorcerer Supreme.

Doctor Strange Movie (2016)

The Doctor Strange movie tells the story of Dr. Stephen Strange, a brilliant but arrogant neurosurgeon. He has an ego that rivals that of Tony Stark. After a devastating car accident, he loses the use of his hands and his career. In search of a cure, he travels to Kamar-Taj, a hidden community in Nepal, where he meets the Ancient One, a powerful sorcerer who teaches him the ways of magic and mystic arts.

As he learns to master his new abilities, he discovers that he is destined to become the next Sorcerer Supreme, charged with protecting the world from mystical threats. Enough of this. You can watch it here.

The 3 Best Doctor Strange Comics to Read

Some people may recommend other comics, but for me, the following comics show different aspects of Doctor Strange’s character and his unique abilities as the Sorcerer Supreme. The comics give a deeper understanding of Doctor Strange’s backstory, personality, and motivations, which can enhance the movie experience.

1. The Montesi Formula – Doctor Strange Vol. 2 #59-62

Doctor Strange teams up with Wong, supernatural detective Hannibal King, occult investigator Frank Drake, and the infamous Blade as they set about to rid the world of the threat of vampires once and for all.

The Montesi Formula

Strange contacts Scarlet Witch about the whereabouts of the Darkhold, a spellbook containing the Montesi formula. Although the encounter with Wanda Maximoff was brief, it makes sense to read the comics in which she teams up with Stephen Strange.

2. Doctor Strange: The Oath #1-5

Doctor Strange: The Oath issue#1-5 explore the origin story of Doctor Strange and provide insight into his personal struggles, making them a good choice for newcomers who want to learn more about the character before watching the movie.

Doctor Strange: The Oath #1

You can easily read Doctor Strange: The Oath without knowing anything about Doctor Strange, as it does a great job of introducing Doctor Strange’s origin in digestible bites for new readers.

3. The Eternity Saga – Strange Tales #130-144

The Eternity Saga, which features 17 issues of dimensional travel, is not only a direct visual influence on the new movie, but also one of the best Doctor Strange stories ever told.

In it, the cosmic being Eternity is introduced as Doctor Strange seeks to learn how to defeat his enemies Baron Mordo and Dormammu.

Strange Tales is one of the best doctor strange comics

So, what do you think?

Even though the comics are not directly linked to the movie, they can give you a better understanding of the Doctor Strange character and the world he lives in. Read them and tell me whether these are Best Doctor Strange Comics or not? If there are not, please share which other Doctor Strange comics that should be included in this post.
